The sixth annual Doors Open Lowell, presented as part of Lowell's National Preservation Month activities, will take place May 17-19, 2007. The event offers an insider's look into the preservation of thirty of Lowell's fabulous historic buildings, many not normally open to the public. It's a celebration of urban living and culture where people and preservation have made Lowell a creative and exciting place to live and work. In 2002, Lowell was the first city in the United States to launch this prestigious event dedicated to built heritage, architecture, and design.
Look for old favorites this year such as well as exciting new additions to the roster of participating buildings. Back this year are Doors Open XTRAs where you can enhance your Doors Open experience through interaction with design professionals and other building affiliated events. Buildings will be open Friday May 18 (6-9 pm) and Saturday May 19 (11am - 6pm). Check the event's website www.doorsopenlowell.org for full event information and regular updates. Look for the pull out guide in the Wednesday May 16 edition of the Lowell Sun.
Don't miss Doors Unhinged! Etc., an exhibition and silent auction of a whimsical collection of artistically enhanced doors and other architectural-inspired artwork created by the local artist community. Doors Unhinged! Etc. extends the theme of Doors Open in a fun, offbeat, and artistic way. Proceeds support both Doors Open Lowell and the arts community. The exhibition will be located at the Boott Mills Counting House (at the Boott Cotton Mills Museum), 115 John Street, and open during a preview on Thursday May 17 (6 - 9pm) and on Friday May 18 (5:30 - 9:30pm) and Saturday May 19 (11am - 8pm).
Event is free. For more information on Doors Open Lowell, contact:
