Two great resources on vinyl siding:
1) Vinyl Siding: The Real Issues, A preservation guide for historic
property owners, historic district commissions, historic property
commissions, by Jan Cunningham. Connecticut Trust for Historic
Preservation, 2001. The PDF is available at the CTT web site here:
http://www.cttrust.org/index.cgi/1745
2) There is a fantastic documentary called "Blue Vinyl" that is
extremely helpful in dissuading people from using vinyl products on
their homes. It focuses on the environmental impacts and cancer risks
of PVC production and is enhanced by the filmmaker's own story of a
battle with cancer and her parents' decision to put vinyl siding on
their family home.
The DVD is available on eBay and at many rental stores; I also have a
loaner copy I can mail out to anyone who's interested.
Cheers,
Rik
