The John H. Chafee Blackstone River Valley National Heritage Corridor
Commission, Quinebaug-Shetucket Heritage Corridor, Inc. and the
Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation recently launched a
series of FREE planning and preservation workshops, “Protecting Special
Places: How to Help Your Community Plan for Its Future.” The last workshop
in the series, "What about Open Space? Balancing Development and
Preservation," will take place Thursday, June 12 from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. at
the Douglas Municipal Center, 29 Depot Street.
Eric Hove, Acting Director of Land Use Policy, Executive Office of Energy
and Environmental Affairs will discuss two strategies for balancing
community growth with preservation: Open Space Residential Design and
Transfer of Development Rights. Come learn how your community can achieve
its development goals while retaining valuable open space.

The Town of Douglas is located about 15 miles south of Worcester.
Directions are as follows:
From the North, via Route 146: Take Route 146 South to the Lackey Dam Road
exit. Take a right at the end of the exit ramp, onto Lackey Dam Road
toward East Douglas. Follow Lackey Dam Road, which becomes Gilboa Street,
for about 1.3 miles. Take a left on North Street and, soon after, take a
right onto Main Street/Route 16. In about .2 mile, take a left onto Depot
Street. Follow Depot Street for about .3 mile, at which point you will see
the Douglas Municipal Center on your right.
From the South, via Route 146: Take Route 146 North to the Route 16 exit.
Take Route 16 West toward East Douglas. Follow Route 16 for about 3.5
miles. Take a left onto Depot Street. Follow Depot Street for about .3
mile, at which point you will see the Douglas Municipal Center on your
right.
From the East, via Route 16: Take Route 16 West toward Douglas. Cross
Route 146 and continue to follow Route 16 for about 3.5 miles. Take a left
onto Depot Street. Follow Depot Street for about .3 mile, at which point
you will see the Douglas Municipal Center on your right.
From the West, via Route 16: Take Route 16 East toward Douglas. About 2
miles after the intersection with South Street/Route 96, take a right onto
Depot Street. Follow Depot Street for about .3 mile, at which point you
will see the Douglas Municipal Center on your right.

Blackstone River Valley National Heritage Corridor Commission, the
Quinebaug-Shetucket Heritage Corridor, Inc. and the Massachusetts
