SECOND ANNUAL
NEWTON
PRESERVATION AWARDS
NOMINATIONS OPEN
The Newton History Museum and Historical Society, in collaboration with
the Newton Historical Commission, will be celebrating the architectural
diversity of Newton with its second annual Newton Preservation Awards.
These awards recognize projects which feature the preservation of
Newton's historic buildings and landscapes and promote awareness of
Newton's historic fabric.
A renewed focus on our heritage and on Newton's unique story has raised
greater awareness for the value of our community's historic resources.
The Newton Preservation Awards are an opportunity to celebrate those
individuals that have chosen preservation as a sustainable reinvestment in
the Newton community.
Examples of projects that may be considered for awards might include:
- rehabilitation of a historic house or building
- a sensitively-designed addition to a historic building
- restoration of a historic landscape
- education programs which make students aware of Newton's
architectural treasures
- individuals or organizations which have done out-standing jobs of
stewarding historic properties and materials
Award submissions will be judged by a qualified jury of experts. All
projects must be in Newton, have been completed in the last three years,
have photographic documentation, and demonstrate a commitment to
historic preservation and/or rehabilitation.
Nominations are due by September 11, 2009, and the awards ceremony
will be held in November.
Detailed instructions and nomination forms are posted online at
