I think that those of us?who have authority over changes to private property need to temper our actions on occasion.? I have seen concern over lawn ornaments in local historic districts.? Does a pink flamingo really need a certificate of appropriateness, what about a faux well, or one of those fake ducks that the wings spin in the wind?? Where we draw the line may be different for each community, but I worry sometimes about the ramifications of being too strick.? Is it really a preservation concern or do we just want to tell people what their property should look like?? Something to consider.

I'm having a hard time understanding what the concern would be with a basketball hoop located in your local historic district. ?Can you elaborate on the specifics here. Chris ??

Acton Historic District Commission has an application for a permanent basket ball hoop in a prominent location in our Acton Center district. Might any other historic district commissions have come across this kind of request? If so, what measures were taken in response?
