Here's another puzzler for you listservers.
I'm working with the owners of a small industrial building that's still in
business, using 19th-century machines and manufacturing techniques upgraded
to 20th-century power. They're looking to the long-range survival of both
the business and the manufacturing process, and would like to combine a
small museum showcasing the industry, its tools and processes, which could
be partly financed by income from the business. The building needs
rehabilitation, so they're looking to come up with some sort of
for-profit/nonprofit mix that could take advantage of tax credits on the
business end and grant funds on the nonprofit end. I'm looking for similar
projects that they might use for models.
If you're aware of any small manufacturers that incorporate museums (or vice
versa) in this sort of symbiotic relationship, please contact me.
Thanks,
Michele
