[MassHistPres] Full funding for the NHP Fund

Local commissions CAN sign on (and have been) to this effort. It does
not constitute lobbying, merely expressing support that they think this
is a good idea. The key right now is to start making noise. The
environmental groups, when they have these sorts of issues, have lists
of hundreds if not thousands of organizations who stand behind them.
Preservation groups have never been able to get that kind of critical
mass. This effort needs, when Congress is approached, evidence that
there are more than just five or six national groups who think it's a
good idea...that they have constituents who are paying attention.

The second most important thing is having the groups that support the
coalition send out news to their media contacts to let them know. One
group sending a press release to a news outlet may not make a story -
but when five do, then there is a story.

Subject: [MassHistPres] Full funding for the NHP Fund

Hello all,

I have just looked at www.fullyfundhpf.org and many of its helps. For at
least a quarter century we have realized that the anemic funding for
preservation projects compared with more widely understoood natural
resource and environmental activities really steals from cities and
towns, especially in denser states where municipal costs for
infastructure and education are higher.

The campaign to correct this will, if successful, raise the
effectiveness and reputation of local preservation, and the timing seems
promising. It would be helpful to know if there is coalition building we
can do to maximize impact the effect from Massachusetts.

Can a town historical commission or district commission join with a
regional or state-wide organization or can we join with the advocates
for the Land & Water Conservation Fund here? Or can we track numbers and
use that individually?

This points up the fact that there isn't a state-wide as with planning
and zoning boards and concomms for example.
