[MassHistPres] modernist houses

The discussion of a supposed FLW house in Wellesley, brings to mind a
situation in Arlington a few years ago. There was a modernist, or
international style, house (1953), nicely positioned on a large lot,
oveddrlooking the Lower Mystic Lake. Some developer bought it, and of
course, wanted to tear it down to squeeze in four or five what I guess you
could call "mini-mcMansions." Since it was on the inventory (but not in a
district) the historical commission had a nearing under the demolition delay
by-law. Interestingly, the architect himself (a local man) appeared and
said he had no objection to the house being taken down.
