[MassHistPres] arch-topped storms? / fire exit storms

Excuses, excuses. They could fill the dormer window opening, including
the arched top and perhaps even the section of wall below the window,
with an insulated, hinged, lockable storm door that meets all applicable
codes, opens outward directly onto the fire escape, and contains a
window that can be opened matching the size and character of the other
adjacent windows. That would also provide them with another formal
egress, increasing the range of use of the building. Let's see them
whinge their way out of that.

Thanks Garrett for the helpful arch-top reference.

I think the fire escape issue is two-fold -- or three-fold -- and in
this case is not entirely related to the storm. A dormer is inherently
small and the bottom half of any dormer window is even smaller in
relation to the current fire access code dimensions of which people are
becoming more aware, and having an arch-top probably reduces that
further. Then there will be an argument about struggling with removing
a storm and screen.

That's new to me as someone who consistently works with 150yr old +
buildings. Maybe a picture of this problem is in order?

We have a home owner who wants to replace his arch-topped dormer windows

Anyone have any suggestions re either issue?
