I just realized that they seem to be on a cruciform cast iron base. I
think we determined that these signs are iron.
In Brookline I think we have reached a detente that seems to have kept
our remaining 500 or so historic aluminum street name signs and there
has been some discussion about getting new ones made for our LHDs.
FYI, we have a quote from Lakeshore in Erie PA industries for $200ea
plus a one time $1,500 tooling charge which covers any name.
Lakeshore would be a good source for other types of LHD signs too.
Here are some other examples of historic cast iron and cast aluminum
signs like Suzanne's. The Brookline signs were made in the town's own
foundry. -- can anyone tell us anything about the history of the
others?

Here is a typical cast aluminum Brookline street name sign -- most
don't have the numbers but that might be a way of identifying the LHD.
Brookline/Boston town line -- made by brookline
We have also identified what must be a few odd survivors of similar
signs in other towns. We'd love more history on them if anyone could
supply it. Or any other examples.
NEWTON -- probably aluminum Any history on them Brian?
Wayland -- probably aluminum -- Know anything about them Gretchen?
Hamilton -- iron
Here is an example of a remarkable town line sign with the blades
mounted in an elaborate, sort of modern, iron or steel fitting atop a
concrete post that I have seen in more than one location. I wonder if
they were some sort of Depression-era project. Sorry about it being
sideways.
Lower Marian Twp PA -- original ca. 1900 signs designed by Mary
Cassat's father in cast iron, post WWII signs made by Lakeshore
industries in aluminum.
