Bill,
In Holden when slate blackboards were removed from a former second floor
school room in the renovation of the Gale Free Library in the 1980's, the
slate was cut into squares, engraved with an image of the historic library
building and sold as mementos. They can be hung on a wall or used as a
trivet. Maybe former students would buy an attractively designed item made of
slate from the school's blackboards.

The Town of Bedford is renovating a school building that was built in
1950. As part of this project, about 20 pieces of slate, each 60” x 39”, are
being removed to be thrown away. I have asked the contractor to store the
slate for as long as possible (at this point, that’s about a week) in order
to see if there is any demand for some or all of these pieces. It seemed
a real shame to have such a valuable resource go to waste.
These slate boards are free for the taking. Please contact me as soon as
possible to express your interest.
