It is still 46 communities as evidenced in MACRIS files and in the State Register listing. You can use the online MACRIS service - select All Towns. Click on Next - Select "Designation" then "National Register TRA" (for Thematic Resource Area nomination).

In the Historic Name box type in "First Period Buildings of Eastern Masssachusetts" Click on Next and the 46 towns will appear listing the Area Letter that represents that listing for the town. Then I think you would have to go to the individual towns to see which properties were listed in the nomination in a given town. Or if you have a copy of the State Register you could look in each of those 46 towns to see how many and which properties are listed in this nomination. The State Register listing for this nomination completed in 1990 has 113 properties in 46 communities. I do not believe that the nomination has been amended to include other properties beyond the 113.

I have a question sort of related to this topic. Does anyone know how many buildings are listed in the First Period Buildings of Eastern Massachusetts Thematic Resource area? I found an online reference saying there were 113 properties in 46 communities, but I don't know how up-to-date that is. I know the listing is occassionally amended to add new properties as discovered. I have been looking online (including the NPS website) and can't find this information, which surprised me. Perhaps someone can direct me to this information? I don't think its on MACRIS, or if it is I haven't been able to figure out how to call it up.
