[MassHistPres] definition of structure

My favorite part is the dangling "not including wheels." It's anyone's
guess as to whether that phrase is supposed to qualify "an object with
permanent location on the ground" or something earlier in the sentence.

Only the author knows for sure (maybe). And all the reader can tell is
that, whatever else is going on, don't let there be any wheels.

Wow - I'm glad our community doesn't have to work with that one.

In looking for model language to define a "structure", it might be good
to keep in mind the National Register explanation that "'Structure' is
used to distinguish from buildings those functional constructions made
usually for purposes other than creating human shelter" or sheltering
human activity. However, "objects" such as monuments, statues and
fountains have their own definition apart from "structures."

I wouldn't go so far as to say that I hold it in any fondness, but
here's the definition from Amherst's demolition delay bylaw:

"Structure" - Any edifice, object or building of any kind that is
constructed or erected and requires more or less permanent

location on the ground or attachment to an object with permanent
location on the ground, not including wheels.

Do any communities out there have a definition of 'structure' in a demo
delay or other bylaw, of which you are particularly fond, and seems to
work well?

Thanks very much-
