The ninth annual Doors Open Lowell, presented as part of Lowell's
National Preservation Month activities, takes place this weekend May
13-15, 2010. The event offers an insider's look into the preservation
of 25 of Lowell's fabulous historic buildings, many not normally open to
the public. It's a celebration of urban living and culture where people
and preservation have made Lowell a creative and exciting place to live,
work, and visit. In 2002, Lowell was the first city in the United
States to launch this prestigious event dedicated to built heritage,
architecture, and design.

Look for old favorites this year as well as exciting new additions to
the roster of participating buildings. Don't miss Doors Open XTRAs
where you can enhance your Doors Open experience through interaction
with design professionals and other special activities. Buildings will
be open Friday May 14 (6-9 pm) and Saturday May 15 (11am - 6pm).

The event kicks off tonight where you can join the Lowell National
Historical Park and the Lowell Heritage Partnership in recognizing
recipients of cultural heritage and historic preservation awards as well
as the opening of the new exhibit "Preservation Then & Now" that
chronicles two centuries of preservation history in New England and
Lowell that is presented in partnership with Historic New England.
RSVPs for the reception should be made to (978) 275-1700 or email
Cheryl_Clark at nps.gov.

Check the event's website www.doorsopenlowell.org for full event
information and regular updates. The program guide will also be
available at the Lowell National Historical Park Visitor Center in
Market Mills at 246 Market Street throughout the event.

Doors Open Lowell is presented by the Lowell Historic Board, Lowell
National Historical Park, Lowell Heritage Partnership, City of Lowell,
Greater Merrimack Valley Convention & Visitors Bureau, and the Cultural
Organization of Lowell (COOL).
