STATE HISTORIC PRESERVATION PLAN 2011-2015

Thank you to everyone that has offered comments so far on the draft
State Historic Preservation Plan 2011-2015.  If you haven't yet offered
comments, you still have time.  We will be accepting comments until
November 1, 2010.  The draft plan can be emailed to you as a PDF by

DUXBURY LOCAL HISTORIC DISTRICT STUDY REPORT

The town of Duxbury recently submitted a local historic district study
report to the Massachusetts Historical Commission for the establishment
of three local historic districts.  

 

SURVEY AND PLANNING GRANTS FROM THE MASSACHUSETTS HISTORICAL COMMISSION

A reminder that the deadline for submitting a survey and planning grant
pre-application is November 15, 2010.  For the FY 2011 round, eligible
applicants will include all local historical commissions, local historic
district commissions, municipal planning offices, and other public and
non-profit historic preservation organizations. The MHC is targeting a
planning figure of $150,000 for the FY 2011 matching grant round.
Please note that for FY 2011 the MHC/Grantee match shares have been
revised from 60/40 to 50/50. Recent survey and planning grant projects
either completed or underway include:

*        Historic property surveys in the communities of Ashland, Athol,
Bedford, Boston, Brookline, Easton, New Bedford, Newton, Reading, Salem
and Worcester.

*        A National Register District nomination in the Town of Oxford. 

*        A National Register context and historic district nomination in
the Town of Lexington.  

*        Local Historic District Design Guidelines in the Town of
Falmouth.

WORKSHOP ON THE PRESERVATION OF RELIGIOUS BUILDINGS

The Boston Preservation Alliance is planning a one-day workshop on
November 13, 2010 to provide practical, useful advice on preserving and
maintaining religious buildings.  The workshop will provide tools and
information for building assessment, maintenance and energy efficiency.
It will describe a process for moving forward when a building has
problems, provide resources for on-going assistance and promote
peer-to-peer networking.  For more information, visit
