i have restored windows on a number of town halls with excellent results...the acton town hall is currently undergoing a window restoration project. i believe it was the town of peabody where the replacement windows failed in short order which required them to be replaced yet again.

restored windows with good quality weather stripping and storm windows can be made as or more efficient than a plastic, fiberglass, aluminum or wood window with insulated glass. there are many many research studies that prove this claim to be true.

good luck.....

The Town of Holbrook has just completed such a project on many of the windows on their 1878 Town Hall. The work was partially funded through a MPPF grant. The results are spectacular.

The town of Hamilton has a Town Hall that was built in the late 1890's. The Town's Capital Planning Committee, along with the Town Manager, has applied for, and won a Federal Grant for energy efficiency improvements. The manager is convinced that window replacement is the only way to go and our local HDC feels otherwise.

Does anyone have any experience in using the grant money for restoration of the original sash along with addition of new storms?

  Thanks,
