SPRINGFIELD PRESERVATION TRUST
SPRING HOUSE TOUR OF ATWATER PARK
Sunday, May 1st, 1 - 4PM
Much of the Atwater neighborhood was developed from the 300-acre estate of
George Atwater, founder of the Springfield Street Railway. In 1902, his heirs
hired the Boston firm of Frederick Law Olmsted, Jr. to create a plan for a
pleasant residential area. Noted local architects were involved in designing
many of its houses: Eugene and George Gardner, Napoleon Russell, Fred Knowlton,
and Max Westhoff. Development was encouraged by the neighborhood’s park-like
setting, proximity to Springfield Hospital, and access to the trolley line. Join
us for a tour of several beautiful homes of Atwater Park.
$15 in advance | $20 day of tour
