Bedford would consider this to be a sign under its by-law and subject to
size restrictions. The Bedford HDC would also consider this sign under its
purview as it is visible from a public way. We have a number of commercial
properties in our historic district and have to deal with this issue
regularly. Where the sign is located is not the controlling issue;
visibility from the exterior is.

Subject: [MassHistPres] LHD purview question
I have a project involving interior lettering on a glass window. This is
for a commercial establishment in a local historic district. Because the
glass is clear, the lettering or signage on the interior side of the glass
is visible. Do any local historic districts consider this within their
purview to review? It is visible, but also in the interior of the building.
Thanks,
Brian Lever
