About a year ago, several Massachusetts folks (Marilyn Fenollosa, Michael
Steinitz, and me) attended a very informative conference in New York City on
the past and future of preservation law. Transcripts of papers from the
conference are now available online, for free, at the James Marston Fitch
Charitable Foundation website

Also, I recently received some information about S. 2053 from John Nunnari,
AIA Massachusetts executive director. John says that since this bill has not
had a hearing, it can't be brought to a vote. The legislature will be in
formal session between January and July, and there could be a hearing on the
bill during this period. But bills are brought for hearings when the House
Speaker or Senate President move them, and there is no indication that the
leadership is interested in this bill. I feel relieved - doesn't seem this
bill is on any fast track, contrary to some newspaper reports.
