I think that sounds fine. I was wondering, though, if it might be
possible for us to have another meeting, just "us" young professionals?
I plan on getting in touch w/the folks at HNE today just to hopefully
firm up our involvement in the symposium. It might be good if we could
all meet sometime in the next week or so to chat about that.

Also, I'm afraid this is turning into more of an "orientation" of MHC
(that people should be receiving anyway, so its good - I'm not
complaining) than we originally intended. Part of our original goals
for meeting were to discuss what WE do for the agency and to develop a
general knowledge of everyone else's interests and strengths and how we
might all complement each others' work here. A lot of us are the only
people in our division (specifically the GIS folks, Jen, etc) so there
is no older "mentor" type person to invite to speak to us. And we
haven't really had much interaction amongst ourselves except for sitting
and hearing not-so-young-preservationists speak.

OK, so to cut through all of the gobbledygook - I think its great that
we are having seasoned members of our staff speak with us, but I feel
like we are not getting the social and intellectual interaction between
our own age group that we originally intended. What are your thoughts
about meeting once a month with an older staff member (until we exhaust
our supply, obviously) but also having another less formal lunch meeting
with just us young folks? We could try to do what we originally
intended by having us all read the same article or watch a documentary
or something.

Not to get really corny, but we never went around and
discussed/introduced ourselves, our backgrounds, our personal interests,
quirky things about us, etc.

Thoughts???

A reminder about Sara Wermeil's talk on the Norcross Brothers at 7PM
tomorrow. Norcross were the contractors for virtually all of
Richardson's and McKim Mead & White's buildings and raised the quality
of US construction to a new level.

The talk is in the new Metropolitan Waterworks Museum -- 2540 Beacon
St., across from the Chestnut Hill Reservoir, near B.C., and easily
accessible from the Reservoir Station on the D-Line.

This Richardsonian cathedral with giant steam engines will be open
before and after the talk until 9PM.
