I think Dr. Charles Steinberg, who is part of the Red Sox organization, captured it best at the Boston Preservation Alliance's Gala & Auction on Wednesday night in celebration of the ballpark's centennial when he reminded us that "victory has a thousand fathers." Let us not forget the folks from Save Fenway Park! who stood up for the ballpark when the tide of public opinion was against them. a wonderful documentary on fenway's centennial on pbs these days...hear mike baHnacal share his favorite stories....

this girl from billerica remembers the excitement of traveling with another 12 year old friend to boston BY OURSELVES from her grandma's in somerville to see a sox game...10 or 25 cents to ride the subway and 50 cents for bleacher seats! those were the days...may level heads always prevail and may fenway always be the oldest paHk in the country!!!

For anyone who remembers the dire predictions but a dozen years ago for Fenway Park, the extravagance and hyperbole for its centennial are easy to forgive. And who knew the Boston Globe's sports pages were replete with preservationists? Read especially in last Sunday's pull-out section "Fenway at 100" the pieces by Bob Hohler ("We are Fenway Park") and Dan Shaughnessy ("It's about home"), and Bob Ryan courting his future wife, and remember them when someone asks why we care about old buildings.
