[MassHistPres] lead paint remover question

like other heat source strippers, the fumes are rather noxious...i have never seen/heard the claim 'no airborne particles' and i wouldn't put my faith in the statement...i use this analogy: if one spends 10 minutes outdoors in the bright sun, it's a safe bet that you will not damage/burn the skin...spend hours on the beach without protection, plan on investing in aloe to alieve the pain and a future with permanent skin damage...leave the infrared stripper on a painted area too long, expect red hot embers, smoke and a possible fire...

heat source strippers cause the paint (lead) to bubble and melt creating a 'sludge' that can be removed with a putty knife...personally, i would not use a silent paint remover, speed heater (original infra-red) or a heat gun on any component that is attached to a building as the risk for fire is significant...they work wonders in a shop setting where the environment is containted and created to work safely (down draft table, fire extinquisher, water source, etc.)...

pH balance strippers such as peel-away 6 & 7 and smart strip or soygel are messy but safe--biodegradeble and non-toxic...of course, when they are mixed with lead paint, they must be disposed of properly...

hope that helps...

Subject: [MassHistPres] lead paint remover question

  Hi,
What is the current status of the 'speedheater system - a infrared paint remover....'
it heats up to 240* with no airborne particles. Does it meet the current Massachusetts Lead Paint removal systems requirements ??

Does any one have any info on this piece of equipment ? Like or dislike ?? (www.eco-strip.com)

  thanks for your help,
