Does anyone here have experience using/ installing/ specifying meranti wood siding. It has shown up in the lumber yards, is harvested in Malaysia, and is just a new name for Lauan. (Lauan has been used for years as the face of inexpensive flush, hollow-core plywood doors.) I specified old-growth pine, it is to be used as replacement boards on an 1850's church, but the old-growth market is getting tight.
I checked on the web and got a reference in the Old House Journal that was not very favorable, but would like to hear from someone who has tried it.
Thanks.
