[MassHistPres] TruSlate Query

Tru slate web site does make for an interesting read...

The "TruGrip" metal batten gets nailed to the roof, then the "TruGrip"
hangers get squeezed into slots in the batten and another nail locks the
hanger into the batten.

The "Underblock UV & moisture barrier" are installed at every row of slate!
These are the points that will fail over time and be a real challenge to
clearly track leak orientation!

Below is a Youtube video from the PBS Hometime show that used the product.
Note all the hangers at ~4:22 minutes in the video.

I'd take a long hard look at the differences in cost of the two systems (by
multiple people with slate experience!) to see what a specific installation
at the house in question would require and where installers think issues
may arise over time.

Good luck Kristi,
Garrett Laws

system with parts of it being real slate. I’d be interested to see a cost
comparison for a real job. I’m not convinced that it would be enough
cheaper than traditional slate to risk trying a brand new system. Limited
50 year warranty. 20 years on installation work.
