Suzanne,
Depending on the specific environmental conditions, there are a number of ways to treat distressed wood paneling and historic finishes. It would be difficult to recommend a specific treatment without an on site analysis.
My firm, Blackburn Building Conservation specializes in preserving architectural woodwork and historic wood finishes. Our website www.BlackburnConservation.com offers more information on strategies to the treat and restore historic wood paneling and original finishes.
Best of luck,

Hello Listers,
We have a member who has 18th century wood paneled walls that appear to be drying as a result of heating the house. Is there a recommended treatment to arrest the process, and perhaps recapture some of the luster of the wood?
Thanks for your advice and input.
