[MassHistPres] ants in stress skin panels

Hi/ I am sad to report that what I thought sounded like a gentle rain, is something else I fear.. My 1790 house has stress skin panels, then tar paper, then a cedar shake shingle roof... we did the insulation on the outside to keep the wood exposed on the inside of the attic.... I have seen big black ants around ( no wings ) and I think they are chomping away inside the stress skin panels. There is no real good way to get to them...we just redid the roof a few years ago and short of redoing that section, does anyone have any other ideas?   Thanks....
