Chris, six months is a quick turn around for a local historic district but certainly possible, especially with a city form of government. Do you have the MHC guidebook, Establishing Local Historic Districts? Chris.

Subject: [MassHistPres] Single house historic district protection for house under demo delay?
All,
There is a historic house (c. 1855) in Medford that the owners are seeking to demolish.
They have filed an application for a demolition permit.
The Medford Historical Commission meets next week and will probably issue a six-month demo delay.
Is there any reason the Historic District Commission cannot seek to place this house in a single-house historic district?
The process of course would have to be completed in six months.
Also, is there any precedent for this in other towns?
Christopher Bader
Chairman
Medford Historic District Commission
