The Massachusetts Historical Commission (MHC) is seeking information on historic properties directly impacted by Hurricane Sandy during late October / early November 2012. Supplemental emergency federal historic preservation funds totaling $50 million have been appropriated to assist with the preservation and/or rehabilitation of significant historic and archaeological resources in the northeastern US impacted by Hurricane Sandy. The bulk of these funds will go to the states of NJ, NY, CT and RI. However, some funding will also be available to additional states that sustained damage during this event. Allocation of funds to Massachusetts will be based in part upon an impact report of damage sustained by eligible historic resources. At this time we ask that you please contact MHC with information you may have on any damage sustained to historic properties that meet the following criteria:
1) Resources must be located in Dukes, Nantucket, Barnstable, Bristol, Plymouth or Suffolk counties.
2) Property owner must be a non-federal public entity or non-profit organization.
3) Property must be listed in the National Register of Historic Places or eligible for listing in the National Register.
4) Damage must be directly related to Hurricane Sandy and sustained in the period October 27 to November 8, 2012.
This is not a call for grant applications but a request for damage assessment information on damages sustained and costs of repair/restoration/ rehabilitation which will help determine what federal emergency historic preservation funds will be allocated to Massachusetts for Hurricane Sandy damage relief.
Please share this with any interested parties. Please direct your response to:
