It's possible that plans for the chapel are at the State Archives at Columbia Point.
The Massachusetts Department of Public Safety enforced building codes from about 1885 until the 1970s. Their collection includes plans for places of public assembly, department stores, residential buildings with more than four units, factories, and the like throughout the state. There is a card index to the collection.
Cards are filed by town and then by address, but the address may not correspond to any modern location. You need to visit the Archives, locate the correct card in the card file, copy the locator number for the plans, and ask to have them retrieved. They will pull them for you to inspect on another day. If you want scans, they will send them to an outside vendor.

Subject: [MassHistPres] Architect Stephen C. Earle files
Preserve UMass is interested in learning where the files and plans of architect Stephen C. Earle (1839-1913) of Worcester may have been archived. He designed over 70 public buildings and residences in the Worcester area and in other parts of Massachusetts. We are specifically interested to learn if the original plans of the 1885 Old Chapel on the UMass Amherst campus have survived. Any help or suggestions would be most appreciated.
