DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:   Under the direction of the Executive Director, the Preservation Administrator is responsible for assisting with the administration of Cambridge's two historic districts, four Neighborhood Conservation Districts (NCDs), and seventy individually designated properties. Supporting the Director and the Preservation Planner, the Preservation Administrator's responsibilities include: serving as a first point of contact for members of the public seeking technical preservation assistance; preparing materials for and facilitating monthly meetings of two NCDs and providing procedural guidance to Commission members; and assisting in advising homeowners, contractors, developers, and architects on historic preservation regulatory issues. The Administrator will process applications, in person and online, for alterations to designated properties; schedule public hearings, prepare notification mailings to applicants and abutters, and produce minutes of NCD meetings; prepare certificates and findings; review compliance with Commission actions; and perform other duties as may be assigned by the Executive Director.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Master's degree in historic preservation, public administration, or urban planning preferred OR Bachelor's degree in a related field and at least four years of professional experience in historic preservation, urban planning, or a related field. The successful candidate will be knowledgeable about historic preservation laws and procedures; be able to communicate effectively orally and in writing with architects, contractors, developers, building owners, supervisors, employees, and the general public; and be an experienced user of common Microsoft Office programs. Ability to assist in maintaining web content and GIS skills are also desirable. A valid driver's license is recommended.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Hand-eye coordination is necessary to operate computers and various pieces of office equipment, including copy machine, printers, and a folding machine.  The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.


WORK ENVIRONMENT:    Work is performed primarily in office settings, but outdoor work is required in the photography and inspection of properties and construction sites.

RATE                                        $20.20-$31.29 per hour
