Cambridge has nine churches in a Ch. 40C historic district representing the Unitarian Universalist, Congregational, Methodist, Christian Science, Episcopal,
Mormon, Armenian Catholic, and Friends denominations.
Neighborhood conservation district and individual landmark designations protect Roman Catholic (2), Lutheran, Baptist, Presbyterian (3), Swedenbogrian, and Pentecostal churches.
Three church buildings adapted for other uses are also protected.
In one case, the City Council designated a Roman Catholic church threatened with closure, without objection from the Archdiocese.

Dear Local Historic Districts
I'm looking for some numbers: do you have a church in your LHD?
If so, please send your town and name of your LHD to us.
We are working on a Polish Heritage Local Historic District that includes a closed Catholic Church, Mater Delorosa and can use some other LHD as examples for our City Council.
Thanks for your time,
Olivia Mausel, Co-Chair
