For a Barn moving in Danvers, Massachusetts, supported by the Danvers Historical Commission as an alternative to demolition, the Danvers Electric Division (municipal power) created a Task Force. All of the business owners in the Cherry Hill Industrial Park accepted the potential loss of all electric power for several hours, so a 33 kV line could be temporarily dropped to allow safe clearance of the moving barn.
Every business owner cooperated. The Town of Danvers Fire Department set up a temporary monitoring facility for the various fire and security alarm systems during the Barn moving. The Town absorbed the municipal costs. The businesses absorbed their own costs. The Barn acquired paid for the Barn moving. Everyone received a T-shirt with the heading "A Moving Experience". A fine example of community cooperation.

Sarah,
The utility bears that cost, unless it is a municipal electric company, in which case it’s on the house-mover. I don’t know that it makes any difference if it is a private way.

Subject: [MassHistPres] Cost of Moving Overhead Utilities
I am wondering if anyone has any recent experiences with who is responsible for the cost of moving overhead utilities when a house is moved. Additionally, does this change if the utilities are located on a private street versus a town accepted road or state highway?
Thanks very much-
Sarah
