My understanding is the first demolition delay was issued because the owner wanted to take down the newer additions leaving only the oldest part of the house. This and the planned interior renovations didn't sit well the the Beverly Historic District Commission so they refused to lift the delay. The owner then took out another permit to level the entire house.

There is a front page article in today’s globe on the imminent demolition of the
Loring House in Beverly after what is reported to have been two one-year demo
delays.

It would be interesting to know about how there could be two delays, if
correctly reported — and any other thoughts from those in the know, about this
sad ending of such an important house — which I recall visiting on an SAH/NE
tour ca. 1980.
