[MassHistPres] Loring House in Beverly

Truly unfortunate. The house is a William Ralph Emerson shingle style classic.
On one hand we face continuous criticism of "modernism," and must fight for the preservation of our newer landmarks, and then we find the old building stock, even quite distinguished examples such as this one, are headed for the trash. Apparently Helen Greiner, the owner, and founder of Roomba, proposed an "upgrade" to the house that would have severely compromised the historic character. It sounds from reading the article, as though this person had poor, or no real preservation assistance in the preparation of whatever planning was done.
Ms. Greiner is now chief exec of CYPHY Inc., a robotics company in Danvers.

> There is a front page article in today’s globe on the imminent demolition of the Loring House in Beverly after what is reported to have been two one-year demo delays.

> It would be interesting to know about how there could be two delays, if correctly reported — and any other thoughts from those in the know, about this sad ending of such an important house — which I recall visiting on an SAH/NE tour ca. 1980.
