Dear Colleagues,
As many of you know, May is National Historic Preservation Month=2E To celeb=
rate and to promote Boston=E2=80=99s history, architecture, archaeology and =
historic neighborhoods the Boston Landmarks Commission, on behalf of Mayor M=
artin J=2E Walsh and the City of Boston, will again produce a calendar of lo=
cal events taking place during the month=2E The aim of the Preservation Mont=
h calendar is to promote the extraordinary work that many Boston organizatio=
ns have undertaken to preserve the city=E2=80=99s history and architecture, =
and to expose a wider, more diverse audience to historic preservation and hi=
story-related activities taking place in Boston=2E The theme of the 2016 cit=
y celebration is =E2=80=9CKeep the Change=2E=E2=80=9D
Calendar detailsWe would like to expand on the success of the past few years=
by featuring a broad range of events and activities=2E The calendar will be=
made available in digital format (PDF) in April=2E A postcard announcement =
will be followed by a hard copy calendar=2E We encourage all participating g=
roups to post the calendar online and brand May events as =E2=80=9CPreservat=
ion Month=E2=80=9D activities=2E We also encourage contributors to adapt eve=
nts to this year=E2=80=99s theme=2E
What types of events qualify for inclusion? Any May 2016 event related to h=
istoric preservation, local history, historic architecture or landscapes, ne=
ighborhood revitalization and archaeology =E2=80=93 anything that celebrates=
Boston=E2=80=99s history or built heritage=2E The calendar is limited to ev=
ents taking place in Boston=2E Please note that due to the high number of ev=
ent submissions anticipated, events that repeat throughout the month will be=
placed in a separate section of this year=E2=80=99s calendar=2E
Submission deadline and requirementsTo submit a calendar event for Preservat=
ion Month, please complete the provided Calendar Event Submission Form and r=
eturn it to Tonya Loveday, Assistant Survey Director (tonya=2Eloveday at boston=
=2Egov) by Friday, March 4=2E If you already have event listings published o=
n your website or in a paper calendar or brochure, we can take your event li=
stings directly from that source, provided it includes all pertinent informa=
tion=2E The submission of a digital image related to your event is highly en=
couraged=2E Please provide image credits for inclusion in our distribution m=
aterials=2E The Boston Landmarks Commission reserves the right to edit all e=
ntries and photographs for consistency and to determine if any entries may n=
ot be appropriate to the purpose of the calendar=2E
