MASSACHUSETTS PRESERVATION PROJECTS FUND
Secretary William F. Galvin, Chair of the Massachusetts Historical Commission is pleased to announce that Round 23 of the Massachusetts Preservation Projects Fund (MPPF) grant program has been scheduled. It is anticipated that funding will be in the range of the previous grant round, Round 22, which was $780,000. Administered by the Massachusetts Historical Commission (MHC), the MPPF is a state-funded 50% reimbursable matching grant program established in 1984 to support the preservation of properties, landscapes, and sites listed in the State Register of Historic Places. Applicants must be a municipality or nonprofit organization. The program is administered in accordance with 950 CMR 73.00. Please note that grant disbursement is subject to reauthorization of the capital accounts and the availability of sufficient allocated funds.

MHC hopes that your schedule allows you to join a member of the MHC’s Grants Division as they explain the program requirements, go over program materials, and give you the opportunity to ask questions. Workshops are free of charge and no registration is required. Applicants are encouraged to begin compiling application materials before attending a workshop, or as soon as possible, to allow sufficient time to meet the application deadline.

MHC PRESERVATION AWARDS
Secretary of the Commonwealth William Francis Galvin and the Massachusetts Historical Commission are pleased to announce the 2017 Preservation Awards nomination process. Awards are presented annually to preservation projects or individuals that have displayed an outstanding commitment to historic preservation in Massachusetts. Nominations must be for projects completed in 2013, 2014, 2015 or 2016. The 2017 Preservation Award Categories are Adaptive Reuse, Archaeology, Education & Outreach, Individual Lifetime Achievement, Landscape Preservation, Local Preservationist, Rehabilitation & Restoration and Stewardship. THREE NEW CERTIFIED LOCAL GOVERNMENTS
Easton, Framingham and Gloucester have been approved as Certified Local Governments in Massachusetts. In approving the applications, both the Massachusetts Historical Commission and the National Park Service recognized the work of the local commissions in their local historic preservation programs. Easton, Framingham and Gloucester will now be eligible to compete for matching grants through the annual survey and planning grant program in the CLG category. There are now 25 Certified Local Governments in Massachusetts. These are Bedford, Boston, Brookline, Danvers, Eastham, Easton, Falmouth, Framingham, Gloucester, Grafton, Hingham, Holyoke, Lexington, Lowell, Marblehead, Medfield, Medford, Methuen, New Bedford, Newton, Plymouth, Quincy, Salem, Somerville and Worcester. To become a CLG, a municipality must meet certain minimum qualifications including the establishment of at least one local historic district. COMMUNITY PRESERVATION ACT ADOPTED IN 11 NEW COMMUNITIES
The Community Preservation Act was adopted by 11 additional communities in November, 2016. Billerica, Boston, Chelsea, Holyoke, Hull, Norwood, Pittsfield, Rockland, Springfield, Watertown and Wrentham all voted to adopt the CPA.
