MHC SURVEY AND PLANNING GRANTS FOR FY 16
At its March and June Commission meetings, the Massachusetts Historical Commission awarded matching Survey and Planning Grants to nineteen projects statewide as part of its FY16 Grant cycle. In the upcoming weeks, most of these projects will advertise for qualified consultants to undertake the grant supported project work that will begin in the fall. An Integrated Approach to Understanding Historic Structures, Historic Deerfield

The study of historic buildings to pinpoint the initial period of construction as well as later modifications relies on a variety of disciplines and areas of expertise that, when combined, build an accurate case for determining the evolution of a structure. The symposium will introduce the methods and materials available to those who work with, or live in, historic buildings, including period documentation, tool marks, paint stratigraphy, dendrochronology, and fastener evolution. Caring for Municipal, Museum, and Other Non-Profit Historic Properties
Friday, September 9, 9 am - 3:30 pm
Lyman Estate, 185 Lyman Street, Waltham, Mass.
Managing historic property owned by municipalities, non-profits, and museums presents numerous challenges. Explore funding mechanisms, building regulations that affect historic property, and more. Learn from preservation staff and professionals who manage historic properties and make preservation treatment decisions, including reviews of conditions assessments, cyclical maintenance, disaster preparedness, and working with contractors.
