[MassHistPres] Chickens in a Local Historic District

Hello all,
In Framingham we have a local historic district resident who is keeping chickens. They currently have a chain-link fence chicken coop, for which they did not apply for a Certificate of Appropriateness. The Historic District Commission would like to consider some alternatives to the chain-link fence, as it is fully visible from the street. Do any other local historic districts have examples of chicken coops in them? And if so, what is their construction/materials? Or, does anyone have any suggestions as to another material that might serve the same utilitarian purpose as the chain-link fence, but be more appropriate for a local historic district?
Thanks in advance,
Jenn
