[MassHistPres] Grant writing; board members

Lee,

Hopkinton has used Jenn Doherty for our studies and grant preparation work but not the actual applications which we’ve done ourselves. If you are interested, email me back and I'll forward her contact info.

The reason we’ve done it this way is I believe there is a requirement that if an outside consultant actually writes the grant application on behalf of the municipality, they are excluded from bidding on the work, but perhaps someone on the list serv can confirm.

Hopkinton has 7 members on our Historical Commission. I believe some communities request nominations from local historical societies and other organizations with similar objectives.

In fact Hopkinton has three committees, the Historical Commission and two local Historic Districts that often are short members. I wonder how many municipalities combine these groups? Perhaps a question that you want answered before you establish another group for Marlborough.

Two unrelated questions:

- Looking for recommendations for an independent grant writer with experience working with history organizations (commissions, societies).

- It seems that our city’s historical commission may be coming back to life. How do other commissions determine the number of members?
