Beverly has the option of having 7 members but decided 5 were enough.  Recently, one member was sick and could not attend a demolition delay hearing.  There was a tie vote which meant no delay was passed since a MAJORITY of members were needed to pass the delay.  You may want to consider this when selecting board members.

Subject: [MassHistPres] Grant writing; board members

Two unrelated questions: - Looking for recommendations for an independent grant writer with experience working with history organizations (commissions, societies). - It seems that our city’s historical commission may be coming back to life. How do other commissions determine the number of members?
