[MassHistPres] Notifying Abutters

The Town of Barnstable mails out the hearing agenda to abutters within 300 feet of the subject property's boundaries (the applicant supplies the postage stamps). This is done two weeks prior to the hearing. Additionally, we post the hearing agenda via two legal ads (paid for by the applicant) in a local newspaper; spaced at least 7 and 14 days before the hearing. Finally, the homeowner is required to post a notice on the structure advising of the request for demolition and stating the hearing date, time, and location (provided by the town).
Good luck!
Best Regards,

Subject: [MassHistPres] Notifying Abutters
How do other cities and towns notify the public when demolition delays are scheduled to appear at public hearings? Especially if the house has historical significance to the city. Does the city/town notify the surrounding neighborhood? Do any commissions send out certified letters? Or require the applicant to send out certified letters notifying the abutters of the property about the upcoming hearing?
Any advice or input would be greatly appreciated.
Thank You,
