The volunteer group Restoring Veteran's Honor which cleans and stabilizes veterans' headstones in communities north of Boston uses D2.  There is some scrubbing involved and the chemical takes its time to get headstones entirely clean (depending on level of grime).  After the initial cleaning, it reacts with rain to continue the process and that may take up to six months.  The organization has found really dirty headstones need to be treated again but D2 is not harsh and does not damage the headstone.

Subject: [MassHistPres] cleaning gravestones

It has been suggested to the Sturbridge Hstorical Commission to use D2 to clean gravestones in the Old Burial Ground. Does anyone have experience with this biological chemical?
