Model railroad clubs are a good place to ask about rr history experts. You should be able to find some good ones for the North Shore here: https://www.railserve.com/Models/Clubs/North_America/New_England/

You could reach out to Richard Symmes, the former curator and co-founder of the Walker Transportation Collection. He has retired and is not involved with rail history as much nowadays but he might be able to point you in the right direction. Any talk of rail history involves crossing the line from historian to rail fan and they are two different animals. Sadly, rail history isn't given the priority it deserves from many in the preservation community. His e-mail is: ellis1947 at comcast.net

Hi Terry
Craig Della Penna in Northampton [Craig Della Penna <Craig4135 at Comcast.net>]
sends out an email called "Rail Trail News From Around the Northeast” He is now a realtor helping buy RR easements to allow the spread of bike paths. He had an earlier career working on the Rail road and now sits on Northampton’s Historical Commission. He could certainly add to any conference on transportation history.

Hello All!
I am helping my local library plan a program featuring topics in local transportation. Someone suggested that we ask someone to speak about the history of trains in Massachusetts, especially in our region, Middlesex County, North of Boston. Does anyone have any ideas as to where I might be able to find such a speaker?
(Also, if there is anyone who speaks to the history of the building of Route 93 and the interstate highway system, that would also be considered appropriate for the program!)
Any tips appreciated!
