Connie -

The Town of Rehoboth still has an active one-room schoolhouse.  Schedules are different due to Covid 19 and I do not know details.  Contact person is Cathy Potter 508-252-3682.

The Town of Dighton still  owns a one-room schoolhouse -- the Segreganset School -- which has been in rehab mode for years, but costs are prohibitive and nothing is happening just now.  (The town once had 15 one room schoolhouses, one of which was across the Taunton River when the town of  Berkley was part of Dighton.  At least 9 of those are now privately owned -- most became homes.)

Gosnold, mentioned in Robert Smith's email,  was once directly related to the Dighton school system in that we shared a superintendent.

Sincerely,Myrna D. Santos,Dighton Town HIstorian

Connie,
Cuttyhunk (Town of Gosnold) has one of the oldest continually functioning one room schoolhouses in America.  Following its (last) recent graduate, a STEAM Academy program is being established, to bring middle school students from the mainland to the island to have the one room schoolhouse experience.  I'd suggest contacting  Gail Blount on the Cuttyhunk Select Board for updated information. There is also a one room schoolhouse close by my home  in South Dartmouth.  It was converted to a branch library in the early 1900's and about 10 years began a new life as home of the Dartmouth Historical and Arts Society.

Hello – This is Connie Hellwig from the Salisbury Historical Commission.  I am conducting a survey throughout Massachusetts to find out how many one-room school houses still exist.  If you would each reply with your town with a yes, and how many, or no there are none, that would be extremely helpful and will enable me to publish my results.  Thank you! Connie HellwigVice ChairmanSalisbury Historical Commission _______________________________________________
