I would like to share a short documentary I just made, along with a call
for content to this group. I understand this group is primarily
concerned with historic property preservation, so please forgive this
rare off-topic request.
Does anyone in this network know of surviving home movies, which include
scenes from trips to the Mohawk Trail? People must have spent some of
their home movie budget on a Mohawk Trail driving day trip west of
Greenfield, Shelburne, and on all the way out to the hairpin turn and
beyond. I am interested in being loaned home movies from the 1920s
through 60s with scenes which include this route. Movie film
disintegrates rapidly after 60 years, so it is long overdue or even to
late to save much of what you might think is still in good condition.
There were petting zoos, gaudy tourist attractions, the pot holes, a car
museum, and numerous other tourist trap and recreation stuff for the
Pre-Interstate highway era in Western Massachusetts. Wouldn't it be fun
to see it all again? I especially hope to find 16mm films, but will be
happy to discuss 8mm in good shape. Super 8 and the other later formats
are too recent. I already have some stuff but not nearly enough.
Please look at my short documentary about the 4th of July Boat Races in
1951 Turners Falls, to get an idea of what we might do with enough
collected films. I will evaluate and digitize appropriate films myself,
with equipment of my own design. Any of you may contact me through the
website link below. The website explains much more. Thanks
