It sounds from this article that Rhino Shield is totally impervious to water vapor. Bad idea. In any building, but especially an old house, vapor is going to flow in different directions at different times of year, and a vapor barrier in the wrong place can trap water and accelerate the decay of wood. I would steer clear.

FYI The Boston Globe did a story in November about issues with the warranty promise on Rhino Shield on a 200 year old house.

Anyone have input on Rhino Shield versus oil paint? How does it behave? Thoughts on its use as an alternative material? Client church and steeple in need of paint and they're considering using this product to reduce maintenance costs.
