PRESERVATION PLANNER/LOCAL GOVERNMENT PROGRAMS COORDINATOR
Massachusetts Historical Commission
Boston, MA
The Massachusetts Historical Commission (MHC), the State Historic Preservation Office, is seeking a Preservation Planner – Local Government Programs Coordinator to work within its Preservation Planning Division. Primary responsibilities include: serving as the primary contact with local historical commissions and historic district commissions, providing information, technical assistance and training on historic preservation to local governments, and administration of the Federal Certified Local Government (CLG) program. The Local Government Programs Coordinator is also responsible for managing the MassHistPres listserv, and the MHC’s Local Preservation Update e-newsletter. He/she will also participate in the National Register evaluation group, and in the management of the Survey & Planning Grant program, and will undertake other projects and duties as assigned by the Executive Director or Director of the Preservation Planning Division.
Qualified candidates will have an MA in Historic Preservation, Planning, Architectural History, or a closely related field (preferred), or a BA in the same fields with three years of relevant experience in planning or historic preservation. Prior experience in local or regional planning or working with municipal governments is preferred. Candidates must be well organized, have adept computer skills, and be able to handle multiple projects simultaneously and to communicate effectively with the public.
