There's a chance this sort of landmark would have been mentioned in a deed
description, long ago. If you can trace the title back far enough, look for
"thence running by a gate and bars" or "bounded on the west (for example)
by a wall and barway." Plymouth County Registry of Deeds has scanned and
uploaded images of their recorded instruments well back into the 17th
century on masslandrecords.com
