Whately is small enough that we can stay on top of this through a
combination of scanning published real estate transactions and
word-of-mouth. When we have a new property owner in either of our two
National Historic Districts and/or in a structure or area included in
MACRIS, I (as Chair of the Historical Commission) send a 'welcome' letter,
including copies of the relevant texts from MACRIS and the National
Register applications, coupled with house-ownership histories compiled by
the Whately Historical Society, using original sources. We've been doing
this for about five years.
