[MassHistPres] Stained glass window issue

A historic church in the Westport Point Historic District  has three pairs of stained glass windows, which were installed 100 years ago.  Each window is approximately two feet wide and sixteen feet high.  As the church is located near the sea in New England, where the winter is cold, we have large wood frame storm windows covering the stained glass windows.  While each of the storm window frames has two 1” round vents in the bottom rail of the storm windows and one or two in the top of the frame, great heat builds up in the summer between the storms and the stained glass.  The storm windows are too large to remove and replace seasonally.  The heat has contributed to the deterioration of the lead in the windows.  We would be interested if other churches have encountered the same problem, and if so, how it has been resolved.
